Hey gang,
I returned to Diamond Hill near Antreville, SC last week and dug in a general area where smokey quartz has been found in the past. I settled on a spot that looked as promising as any other and, low and behold and with some hard work, I hit a big pocket containing large smokey quartz crystal clusters. The following are pictures of a few of the specimens that I retrieved from the thick and sticky red mud.

Some of the smokey quartz is partially covered with a layer granular to crystalline quartz. This outer layer seems to have been mostly dissolved or it never fully formed - just some more atypical Diamond Hill quartz specimens!
The rockhounding gods seem to be smiling on me and Chrissy lately - wait until you see our Harrodsburg Area, Indiana field trip report and you'll see what I mean.
