Saturday was our day to start heading back to North Carolina while the rest of
the McRocks group who had gathered for the weekend headed out to the Sheffler Mine. Since our route
of Keokuk took us right by the mine, we stopped in to say our goodbye's to everyone. While there,
I took some pictures of the great people whom we had gotten to know while at the campground.
We passed through Nashville on our way home and stopped at a site where
I was told that celestite and calcite could be found. We were back in the hot south and the
temperature was already in the low 80's by noon, but I just had to check the place out. After all,
I'd hate to drive right past a site without looking. We spent only a couple hours but did manage
to find a few decent specimens before I started to melt.
We were very tired when we finally made it home by early evening but we were more
than satisfied with our "vacation".
PS - Our thanks go out to Everett for all that he did to make our trip one of the
best ever. He went out of his way to make sure the we and others found plenty of stuff to brag about
when we got home. But, the only bragging that we'll be doing will be about our good buddy, Everett!
We're proud to call him our friend.
