This unusual specimen from and old private collection is from the Spruce Pine Mining District of North Carolina. As you can see in the pictures above, it consists of muscovite book with an included apatite crystal. The muscovite and apatite are 3" and 1/4" wide respectively with a total weight of 4 ounces. A big bonus to the little apatite crystal is it fluoresces bright yellow/green under short wave ultra violet light. A nifty little specimen just right for a discerning collector.

This unusual specimen was collected at the Sink Hole Mine in Mitchell County, North Carolina. As you can see in the pictures above, it consists of a large apatite crystal mass that has been partially replaced in a zoned fashion with red almandine garnet and quartz. This large cabinet size specimen is 6-1/2" and 6-1/2" wide by 3-1/2 thick with a weight of 5 pounds. A big bonus to the little apatite crystal is it fluoresces bright yellow/green under short wave ultra violet light (lousy shortwave UV picture - looks much better in real life). Specimens like this are few and far between even for those who frequent the Sink Hole Mine regularly.
