This specimen collected in New Mexico consists almost entirely of a mass of andradite garnet crystals on massive garnet with some calcite in the matrix. The gemmy garnets reach up to 1/4" wide the whole piece is 8" long by 7" wide by 3" thick. This wonderful cabinet specimen weighs approximately 6-1/2 pounds. |
Little Pine Garnet Mine Madison Co., North Carolina Price: $20.00 ID Code = Gar-0007 SOLD
This specimen consists of a single large garnet crystal in a chlorite schist matrix. The garnet has been partially oxidized and replaced with chlorite but mostly maintains a sharp euhedral shape. The dimensions of the specimen are 3-1/2 wide by 2" thick and the garnet is 2" wide. The weight is about 1/2 pound. As is my practice with Little Pine specimens, I used a Dremel tool to grind off chlorite and iron oxide from the garnet and applied a thin coat of clear enamel to give it a "polished" look.
