This specimen was collected at the Diamond Hill Quartz Mine in South Carolina. It also shows at least three phases of quartz crystallization. The first phase of crystals have been overgrown with a second phase forming phantoms. A third phase of crystallization occurred when tiny sprays and clusters of quartz was deposited on top of the second phase. There are indications that the second phase of quartz may have been partially dissolved before the third phase crystallized. Strange but striking! The largest crystal is approximately 1” long and the whole large piece is 6” long by 5” wide by 4" thick with a weight of 3 pounds.

This is a fantastic example of skeletal or elestial quartz, so named because the crystals have a "cathedral" like form, with multiple parallel and stepped prismatic faces and pyramidal terminations. The appearance of this type of quartz gave rise to the term "skeletal" as the crystals resemble what someone with a good imagination would expect the skeleton of a quartz crystal to look like (not that they exist). The patterns exhibited by skeletal quartz represent internal and external dissolution-growth features resulting from unstable conditions during crystallization. This very large specimen was collected at the Diamond Hill Quartz Mine near Antreville, South Carolina. Most of the milky white crystals are wonderfully coated with brown and yellow iron oxide giving a very striking appearance. The angular interlocking appearance of the massive quartz suggests that it was formed in a fault breccia. The largest crystal is approximately 1-1/2" long and the whole large piece is 9" long by 8-1/2" wide by 8" thick with a weight of 17-1/4 pounds. This is a fantastic specimen

This specimen consists of hundreds of milky white to translucent quartz crystals with a partial coating of iron and manganese oxides. This attractive specimen was collected at the Diamond Hill Quartz Mine near Antreville, South Carolina. Most of the milky white crystals are wonderfully coated with brown, yellow and black iron and manganese oxides giving a very striking appearance. The specimen is 7" long by 7-1/2" wide by 5" thick with a weight of 5 pounds. This is a fantastic specimen with virtual not damage to any of the crystals as great care was taken to recover it and bring it home.

This specimen consists of hundreds of milky white to translucent quartz crystals with manganese oxide. This attractive specimen was collected at the Diamond Hill Quartz Mine near Antreville, South Carolina. Most of the milky white crystals are wonderfully coated with brown, yellow and black iron and manganese oxides giving a very striking appearance - some of the manganese has gotten thick enough to become botryoidal. The specimen is 7" long by 5" wide by 5" thick with a weight of 6 pounds. This is a fantastic specimen with virtual no damage to any of the crystals as great care was taken to recover it and bring it home.
