The following specimen is one of the more unusual that we have found at Diamond Hill. Overlying quartz is a secondary growth of silica partially covered by black and brown manganese and iron oxides. Also contained on the specimen are cone-shaped hollow casts made of sparkling fine grained quartz. The secondary layer of silica is most likely a psuedomorph of calcite.
